Happy Daze
Judy was a strong intelligent woman, physically present in this world with an openness to all.
Her concern was always to share the joy.  A willingness to help where needed.  An awareness of the other.

1991 - Posing for The Chronicle

From a photo session for an article about women in video titled "You Know It Ai't Easy".

Judy in her director mode guided the shoot and became The Chronicle's first multi color cover, May 10, 1991.

This is from the contact sheet.  To me, this is her spirit.  Her body became difficult but her eyes and her smile never changed.

A woman for the 21st century
creative, capable of critical thought,

self reflective
Second to no person  but inclusive of all.

Most of all,

a spirit

energized by her love of life.

Judy's photo of spray at  Schoodic Point, Maine

Her original photo at the point on a day of wonderous strong waves, a favorite of hers, showed the power of the Ocean she loved so much.

I had been searching for a match for this image of her, opening herself to the Universe, originally taken against her ndebele mural.  It seemed natural.  She would surf the spray.

Surfings the source.

At the Delaware River - On a summer exploration

During the heat of summer, while I was at UT, Judy would escape and explore territories.  She would bring home pictures, stories + energy.

In summer 2012, with an eye to a new home, she went both northeast to Lake Champlain and Rhode Island and northwest to Washington and B.C.  I now have time to process the wonderful trove of photos she brought back from this trip.  She inspires me daily with her life.

Her photos made me feel that I had been with her on this trip as on so many others.  Her vision was exciting and comfortable, like places we'd shared with the joy of the new.  She knew I would love and add to her work.

Woman Rising - a Celebration

Our need in the 21st century to bring balance to our communities.

Judy was always interested in the shape of shadows and how on uneven surfaces they reflect an altered form.  This still is from this session with Karen. The video footage is used in Judy’s tone poem Window Washing at Sunset

My tribute to strong women. 4 x 5.5" magnet or 5.5 x 8.5" postcards available on request

A note about this site.  I have left legacy pages from Judy and will be augmenting the site with  Remebrances and Herstory.

The About page is Judy's presentation of self in 2013 with her vision of this century.  Judy 2014 is the collection of her last site presenting her work looking forward after her Graduation.  Please feel free to explore.

I will be highliighting her videos from her Vimeo site.

The Director and the Choreographer

This site is for Judy.  I would also like to dedicate it to her kindred spirit through many cycles around the sun, Karen MacIntyre

My thanks to all for the love and support i have been given though this difficult period.  I miss her so.

I will be adding photos and memorabilia to this site particularly on the Her Story page.

I hope to use this page as a timeline of Austin from 1975 and invite people to offer their memories of interaction with Judy as well as where they were during this period.  I feel that the last twenty five years of the twentieth century was an important era in Austin and a time of transition.  I also feel it is important to document who we were through this era.  If we can develop this enough, I hope to package the material along with video footage of Judy's project documenting Austin during the Sesquicentennial to the History Center.

Photos and memories are requested.
